Stuff for Students Fundraiser 2018

1444 × 1444

August is in full swing, and so is our 17th annual ‘Stuff for Students’ campaign! We will once again be partnering with other local Larry H. Miller dealerships, Denver’s 9NEWS, and the Volunteers of America (VOA) Colorado Branch to distribute donated school supplies to local students in more than 15 different school districts here in Colorado.

We had a fantastic drive last year, raising over $23,500 in supplies and monetary donations for almost 60,000 local students. We can’t thank you enough for such a successful 2017. This year, we are aiming even higher and hoping to reach so many more students so that we can further their educational experiences.

“One of the greatest investments we can make as a company is in our youth,” said Ray Reilly, senior vice president of operations, Larry H. Miller Dealerships. “By participating in ‘Stuff for Students,’ we’ve been able to ensure that local students have the tools they need to succeed in school. Our incredible customers and employees have helped us collect nearly $50,000 in school supplies over the last four years, and we look forward to a successful 2018.”

The cost of public education is ever-increasing. According to the Colorado Education Association, the average teacher spends approximately $656 per year on classroom supplies. Furthermore, about 23 percent of students who live in counties where the VOA has an impact is still living in poverty. This is alarming because the total number of students in the entire state living in poverty is only 14.7 percent. With your help, nearly 25,000 students can receive school supplies for the upcoming academic year, easing the financial burden on their families.

“The teacher walkouts seen around the country this year highlight how dramatically underfunded public schools can be. A lack of resources means children living in poverty could fall behind in class,” said Bradley Gulley, director of volunteer services, Volunteers of America Colorado. “The donated school supplies from Larry H. Miller dealerships and their customers make a real difference in helping children be successful in the classroom.”

During all of August, Larry H. Miller Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM 104th will be filling one of our showroom vehicles to the top with all of your supply donations. At the end of the month, we will gather the supplies and distribute it to students in need. Donation supplies can include backpacks, pencils, highlighters, scissors, binders, rulers, calculators, erasers, glue, lunch bags, and any additional classroom necessities. You may also donate directly to the VOA online at http://www.voacolorado.org/news_and_events/stuff-for-students. Together, we can offer local pre-k through high school students the required supplies for a successful school year.
